Author: Robert A. Leon

Bob retired from his “paying” job in February 2000. His wife Jacqui, joined the ranks six months later as a result of her mother’s requiring a knee replacement and the decision for her mother to spend time with her during the “healing” process. Unfortunately her mother suffered a stroke and required 24/7 care. One of Jacqui's sisters shared in the care of mom as well. Jacqui’s sister worked full time so the burden fell on his wife.

Jacqui promised her mom that she would always care for her, and that she would never exile her to a nursing home. Needless to say, many family and friends thought she was nuts. Especially during the tough times as they approached the "end."

Bob guesses that it’s also another reason he considers his wife to be one of his heroes. She never forgot how her mom "gave" to so many. And Jacqui's care was from her heart, for the love of a dear parent.

Bob believes Jacqui summed it up best in her mother's eulogy, where she wrote:"she never asked for anything for herself, but was so demanding to satisfy the needs of others; how does one compare to what we have known as perfect?"

Jacqui and Bob have residences in Boston, Massachusetts and North Conway, New Hampshire. They have three married children, and eight grandchildren. All of who also worshipped their great grandmother. Bob witnessed how Jacqui treated her mother, so she'll experience the same through their children and grandchildren.
